YRF Studios inaugurated its in-house VFX Studio - yFX in February, 2016.
yFX has worked on YRF’s Salman Khan - Anushka Sharma starrer SULTAN as its first film with many more exciting films to follow. With the addition of yFX, YRF exemplifies a complete film making experience in every possible way where one can walk in with an idea and leave with a complete film or TV show.
In May 2016, the Swiss government honoured the work of Yash Chopra with a special statue, as a mark of gratitude and salutations. A sculpture made of pure bronze, and weighing about 350 kilos, has presented Yash Chopra in an iconic pose of him directing a film.
SULTAN released on 6 July 2016. It is a romantic sports-drama film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film stars Salman Khan as the title character opposite Anushka Sharma. SULTAN has now become the third highest grossing Hindi cinema of all time and has also broken 35 other records at the worldwide box office.
DUM LAGA KE HAISHA released on 27 February 2015. DUM LAGA KE HAISHA is a romantic comedy directed by Sharat Katariya and produced by Maneesh Sharma. The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and the debutante Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles.
The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi along with Best Lyrics by Varun Grover for the song Moh Moh Ke Dhaage and Best Female Playback Singer by Monali Thakur for the same song.
YRF forayed into the South with fanfare - the much awaited entry of YRF into the South was led by the remake of its scintillating and entertaining film, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT [titled as AAHA KALYANAM for southern release], which released in 2010 to critical and popular acclaim.
On 12 December 2014, Aditya Chopra's directorial debut, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, completed 1000 weeks at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir Cinema, becoming the longest running
film in the history of Indian cinema. On this historic day, the lead pair of DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol launched a book based on the film titled 'Aditya Chopra relives DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE as told to Nasreen Munni Kabir', which gave the director’s rare insights into the making of the iconic film.
YRF joined hands with Karol Bagh Saree House (KBSH) to create India’s first Bollywood inspired fashion label called Diva’ni – where fashion romances Bollywood. India’s leading production house, YRF along with KBSH, aim to serenade the splendour of Indian cinema through aspirational fashion.
DHOOM:3 released on 20 December 2013, marking itself as the first Indian film to be released in the IMAX motion picture film format with Dolby Atmos surround sound.
The film broke many records on its opening days in India and abroad. Box Office India declared DHOOM:3 ‘the biggest hit of 2013’ after two days of release, the film went on to gross INR 556 crores (US$ 93 million) worldwide, to become the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film till date.
DHOOM:3 was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya who had also written for the previous films of the DHOOM franchise.
ISHAQZAADE released on 11 May 2012. It is a romantic thriller written and directed by Habib Faisal, starring debutant Arjun Kapoor, and Parineeti Chopra who won a National Film Award for the film.
YOMICS, a comic book division of YRF was launched in July 2012, at YRF Studios to give users a unique experience of digital comics from their film catalogue.
EK THA TIGER released on 15 August 2012. It’s a romantic thriller starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. This was the first time YRF worked with Salman Khan in a film and was the third collaboration of Kabir Khan with YRF after KABUL EXPRESS (2006) and NEW YORK (2009).
JAB TAK HAI JAAN released on 13 November 2012.
Just a few weeks earlier, on his 80th birthday Yash Chopra had announced that it would be his last film as director... and he bid his farewell on 21 Oct 2012.
JAB TAK HAI JAAN was Yash Chopra’s last labour of love. The film received a number of nominations and awards at award shows. The film was praised for its direction, cinematography and chemistry between the lead actors, with Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma receiving accolades for their performances. Yash Chopra worked for the first time with composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Gulzar.
YRF launched a youth films division, Y-Films in 2011. A studio that promises to deliver kick-ass films of the youth, by the youth, for the youth. And be a platform for talent – both on screen and behind the scenes – who will break and set new rules of story-telling.
Uday Chopra announced the formation of YRF Entertainment, a Hollywood-based production and financing company focused on developing and producing feature films for the U.S. and international marketplace.
Mr. Yash Chopra was honoured with the title of 'Ambassador of Interlaken', in Interlaken, making him the first recipient of this prestigious award. A silver plaque was also dedicated to him which was placed in Interlaken along the Hoheweg - Interlaken's famous main street.
This honour for Yash Chopra had been announced in October 2010 in New Delhi by the Swiss Embassy during which Mr. Chopra was also bestowed the 'Swiss Ambassador's Award.'
- A majestic 'Yash Chopra Suite' was also inaugurated at the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, Interlaken's most luxurious hotel.

BAND BAAJA BAARAAT released on 10 December 2010.
Directed by debutant Maneesh Sharma and starring Anushka Sharma with newcomer Ranveer Singh in the lead roles, the film was a critical and commercial success, it became popular for its fresh subject and screenplay and turned out to be one of the most awarded movies that year.
January, 2010 marked the entry of YRF Television, producing new age Television software for transmission on Sony Entertainment Television - India's leading television broadcaster, ushering a new wave of television viewing experience.
YRF & SOTC signed licensing agreement with Swiss-based brand to invest and offered a customized entertainment experience to Indian film fans visiting Switzerland - Yash Raj Films’ Enchanted Journey.
YRF became the first production house from India to launch its own talent division with a focus to launch some of the freshest and most talented artistes in the industry across all touch points.
In 2001, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE (DDLJ) broke the continuous-exhibition record, established by the film SHOLAY at Minerva Theatre (5 years: 1975 – 1980). And as on March 2009, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE had set yet another record by completing 700 WEEKS of continuous play in Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theatre.
YRF teamed up with the Walt Disney Studios, world-renowned leaders in entertainment, to create animation feature films. ROADSIDE ROMEO, which was created in association with Walt Disney Studios was released on 24 October 2008.
The film bagged the National Award for the Best Animation Film that year.
Yash Chopra was honoured by the renowned Hollywood Reporter magazine at a function held on October 14 October 2008 at Taj Land’s End, Mumbai. He was felicitated for his invaluable contribution to Indian Cinema and the impact created by Yash Raj Films in business in the US.
ROADSIDE ROMEO, which was created in association with Walt Disney Studios was released on 24 October 2008. The film bagged the National Award for the Best Animation Film that year.
CHAK DE INDIA released on 10 August 2007 and won hearts worldwide. The inspirational story of the coach taking his girls hockey team to the pinnacle of world hockey touched the chords of viewers all across the world. The film also received excellent mainstream acclaim. Its title song became a sports anthem of the nation.
CHAK DE INDIA was directed by Shimit Amin. It was Shimit’s first film with YRF as a director.
The film won National Award for the Best Film for providing Popular and Wholesome Entertainment.
FANAA released on 26 May 2006. It was the first time Aamir Khan starred in a YRF film, with Kajol in female lead, after a gap of few years.
India’s premier entertainment studio, YRF launched ‘YRF Merchandise’ with the film FANAA.
On 9 November 2006, Microsoft’s Worldwide CEO, Steve Ballmer along with Mr. Yash Chopra launched the DRM protected audio streaming enabled YRF website (www.yashrajfilms.com) in Mumbai, marking the advent of a new era for Indian entertainment consumers.
KABUL EXPRESS released on 15 December 2006. YRF launched Kabir Khan as a director in the film KABUL EXPRESS which won the National Award for the Best First Film Director.
On the auspicious occasion of Dassera (12 October 2005), YRF moved into its newly constructed corporate office and its own state-of-the-art, fully integrated film studio.
YRF was adjudged the Best Production Company and Best Marketing Company in Entertainment at the Apsara Film & Television Producers Guild Awards 2005.
At a glittering ceremony featuring the ‘Who’s who’ of the Indian corporate landscape, Mr. Yash Chopra was awarded the ‘Superbrand’ Award by Superbrands International.
The Hindi film industry voted Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra the most powerful people in the Indian Entertainment business. The Yash Raj juggernaut thundered into the Number 1 slot in Filmfare’s Power List 2005, making it a first – when a production house has been judged more powerful than any superstar.
In addition to distributing their own productions, YRF also initiated domestic and international theatrical distribution of films from other reputed production houses.
Hollywood Reporter, the renowned international film magazine carried a survey on the Biggest Film Production Houses in the world and YRF appeared alongside big names like like Buena Vista, Sony, Warner Brothers, Universal, New Line, Fox, Paramount, Miramax, MGM and DreamWorks just to name a few.
YRF featured on the 27th position and thereby was the Number One distribution house from India.
HUM TUM released on 28 May 2004. HUM TUM, a romantic comedy directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra, became immensely popular with the youth. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in lead roles.
Saif Ali Khan won the National Award for Best Actor that year.
DHOOM released on 27 August 2004. DHOOM became a runaway hit, marking the first in the very popular franchise that was to follow in later years.
VEER-ZAARA released on 12 November 2004. The Yash Chopra directed love legend VEER-ZAARA was a cross border romantic saga that won the hearts of filmgoers all over the world. With a stellar cast, the film received accolades for its direction, screenplay, performances and music.
Yash Chopra was very successful in his experiment of creating a soundtrack based on unheard compositions of the late Madan Mohan, a composer who had passed away 30 years ago. This endeavour resulted in a best-selling album, various posthumous awards for the music and being hailed by the Billboard magazine as a historic achievement in the music industry.
Like many of Yash Chopra’s earlier films VEER-ZAARA too won the National Award for Best Film providing popular and wholesome entertainment.
‘YRF Music’ label was launched overseas with the music of DHOOM and HUM TUM, and then with the release of VEER-ZAARA, a full-fledged in-house Music and Home Entertainment Division was launched, for India and global distribution. Apart from films produced by YRF, the new label also marketed film classics of Raj Kapoor, B.R. Chopra, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt as well as blockbusters from contemporary cinema.
SAATHIYA released on 20 December 2002. It’s a romantic drama directed by Shaad Ali and written by Mani Ratnam. The film stars Vivek Oberoi opposite Rani Mukerji in lead roles with cameo appearances of Shah Rukh Khan and Tabu. The music for the film was composed by A. R. Rahman.
YRF was chosen for the Golden Peacock National Quality Award for outstanding achievement in pursuit of Total Quality Management in the Entertainment Sector (Film/TV) for the year 2002.
YRF was one of the first production houses to deploy new and catalogue film content across the mobile ecosystem within India.
The Consulate General of Switzerland in Mumbai announced the first Swiss Filmfare Award, which was presented to Mr. Yash Chopra to commend his pioneering efforts in bringing Switzerland to Indian audiences by choosing the beautiful Swiss landscapes as a location for most of his films for almost 20 years thereby making Switzerland a popular tourist destination.
In 2002, The British Film Institute commissioned a book on this record-breaking film (DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE), under the BFI Modern Classics series. This is the first Hindi film to be chosen in this series of critical studies of international films produced over the last three decades, reflecting the enormous impact this film had on global Indian audiences.
With the unprecedented success of its recent films, YRF embarked on its journey from being a film production Company into a professionally run and structured entertainment Company. With a CEO joining the Management team, began the process of bringing in professionals who would help in fulfilling the vision of Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra to create a full-fledged studio in the years to come. Distribution offices in India as well as overseas, some of which were already in place, were further developed into an integrated setup.
MOHABBATEIN released on 27 October 2000.
Aditya Chopra directed his second film, MOHABBATEIN, in which he launched 6 young actors, including his younger brother, Uday Chopra. The highlight of the film were the dramatic performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, both appearing together in a film for the first time.
YRF started its own film distribution division in 1997 along with the release of DIL TO PAGAL HAI.
DIL TO PAGAL HAI released on 30 October 1997.
It was a film Yash Chopra directed after a gap of six years. A romantic musical, the very successful film had modern dance as its base and became a favourite with the youth. Yash Chopra relaunched Uttam Singh as a film composer and the stupendous success of the music made it the best-selling album of all time.
DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE released on 20 October 1995.
DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, often referred to as DDLJ, marked the remarkable directorial debut of Yash Chopra’s elder son, Aditya Chopra at the young age of 23.
The film went on to win every conceivable award it deserved, including the National Award for the Best Film for providing Popular and Wholesome Entertainment.
DARR released on 24 December 1993.
DARR, a romantic psychological thriller, was well received by critics and audiences and has achieved a classic status today. Shah Rukh Khan in an off-beat negative role, won the hearts of many fans and DARR heralded the arrival of an iconic star.
DARR won the National Award as the Best Film for providing Popular and Wholesome Entertainment.
LAMHE released on 21 November 1991.
Yash Chopra's own favourite film, LAMHE was also his boldest - a love story between two generations, which was considered a film way ahead of its times. The film was much applauded and was hugely popular in metropolitan cities and the overseas market.
On the occasion of the Centenary of Indian Cinema in 2013, LAMHE featured among the Top Ten Romantic Movies of 100 years.
Neeta Lulla won the National Award for Best Costume Design.
CHANDNI released on 14 September 1989.
Yash Chopra made CHANDNI which revived the era of romantic musicals at a time dictated by action and violence-driven films at the box-office. Sridevi's white costumes became popular as the 'Chandni Look’, and the songs of the film were a rage. Though this was not the first time Yash Chopra shot a film in Switzerland, the extensive scenes shot there made it a popular tourist destination for Indians.
CHANDNI won the National Award as Best Film for providing Popular and Wholesome Entertainment.
MASHAAL released on 9 February 1984.
Yash Chopra’s fiery saga, MASHAAL gave him the opportunity to direct his favourite actor, Dilip Kumar. The film with its true to life and identifiable characters had a memorable performance by the thespian, while the young Anil Kapoor held his own in one of his finest performances.
SILSILA released on 14 August 1981.
With SILSILA, Yash Chopra created a casting coup with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha playing the lead love triangle in a story of an extra-marital affair. He launched classical musicians Shiv Kumar Sharma & Hariprasad Chaurasia as film composers and Javed Akhtar as lyricist.
KABHI KABHIE released on 27 February 1976.
The film was made at a time when such grand scale romances were not in fashion. Yash Chopra, who was known for his flair for working with ensemble casts, put together what was apparently an insurmountable task and KABHI KABHIE broke all records upon its release.
DAAG released on 27 April 1973.
DAAG, the first film of YRF, directed by Yash Chopra was an unconventional subject of a man defying society by living together with his two wives. It was a film with Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee in the lead roles. This super hit film had memorable performances by the stellar cast.
